We give away bicycles to those in need on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:15 am. at our 226 Hudson headquarters. Unfortunately, the demand for bikes typically outstrips our supply, particularly in the warmer months. At 9:15 am, we assign numbers randomly to those who have arrived to determine the order in which they’ll be able to choose from our stock on hand. There is no advantage to arriving early.
Here’s what you need to get a bike:
- Personal identification.
- A signed letter of reference, preferably on letterhead, from an employer, doctor, school, church, or social service agency stating why you need a bike.
- A lock to secure your bike, or $5 to purchase one from us.
Children under 18 only need to have a parent with them – no letter is required. Children receiving an adult bike will also need to have a lock or $5 to buy one from us.
Please note that when school is in session, we will not give out childrens’ bikes on Wednesdays.
IMPORTANT: There is no guarantee that you will receive a bike! Unfortunately, demand exceeds supply – by a lot. You can increase your chances of obtaining a bike by coming during the Winter.
